As husband and wife, we realized that our retirement plans would incorporate some activity where we could use our corporate talents to engage in a fun and relaxing hobby that we could do together.  Bonnie, after years in corporate communications, started an American art/craft/home furnishings Gallery which she operated for twenty years and then sold. Jim was in sales management in the foodservice industry.  In 2022, we built our retirement home on a backdrop of heavily forested oak trees and native rhododendrons with a year-long creek. We included enough space to for a studio in which we could do our crafts together.  

From the start, Bonnie was fully engaged with clay. Jim had an art easel and writing table to draw, paint, and write poetry. One day on a lark, Jim sat at the pottery wheel and discovered he could center a lump of clay with minimal effort, time and time again.  

Thus began our collaborative work creating our one-of-a-kind hand-crafted vessels.  Jim is the "wheelman" and studio director. Bonnie is the trimmer/glazer. While Jim likes to throw big, Bonnie likes to throw small. Together, we can offer a wide range of finished vessels to be used for serving food and beverages.  At Sacred Oak Pottery, all our vessels are electric kiln fired and glazed with food-safe glazes. Oven, microwave and dishwasher safe.
