As husband and wife, we realized that our retirement plans would incorporate some activity where we could use our corporate talents to engage in a fun and relaxing hobby that we could do together. After years in corporate communications, Bonnie started an American art/craft/home furnishings Gallery, which she operated for twenty years. She sold large pottery bowls crafted by regional potters and then sold the business. Jim was in sales management in the food service industry. In 2022, we built our retirement home on a backdrop of heavily forested oak trees and native rhododendrons with a year-long creek. We included enough space for a studio in which we could do our crafts together.
From the start, Bonnie was fully engaged with clay. Jim had an art easel and a writing table to draw, paint, and write poetry. One day, on a lark, Jim sat at the pottery wheel and discovered he could center a lump of clay with minimal effort, time and time again.
Thus began our collaborative work creating our one-of-a-kind hand-crafted vessels. Jim is the "wheelman" and studio director. Bonnie is the trimmer/glazer. While Jim loves to throw vessels, Bonnie loves design, color, and function. Together, we can offer a wide range of pottery serving bowls. At Sacred Oak Pottery, all our large and small pottery bowls, plates, and mugs are electric kiln-fired and glazed with food-safe glazes. Each piece is oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe. We encourage you to visit our online Pottery Store.
